In a case of first impression, a Massachusetts state court has ruled it has jurisdiction to hear a case against Salomon S.A.

A multidistrict litigation in Massachusetts over lead-tainted juice has been shut down by a judge in what seems like record time for a product liability class action. The ruling dismisses consolidated class action claims that eight food and beverage companies misled consumers about the safety of packaged juice and fruit products.

A lawsuit filed by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley against five national banks and a national mortgage registration system for allegedly illegal foreclosure practices in that state is the latest in a growing number of public law enforcement cases challenging banks’ mortgage practices. Similar cases have been brought by the attorneys general of Delaware, Nevada and Arizona.

A Massachusetts federal judge has rejected a bid by Netflix to dismiss a case brought against it by the National Association of the Deaf for failing to provide closed captioned text with its Web streaming service. But the judge stayed the case pending rulemaking by the FCC.

A Massachusetts appellate court has affirmed the dismissal of a suit on behalf of a putative class of shareholders of Phase Forward Corp., which agreed to be acquired by Oracle for about $685 million in April 2010.
