A judge has sanctioned SunTrust’s mortgage division and criticized the bank’s lawyers, concluding a SunTrust employee altered emails that in-house lawyers and senior management knew were apt to be at the center of AIG insurance fraud litigation.

Jonathan Dickstein, a former Morrison & Foerster partner, pleaded not guilty in San Francisco Superior Court Thursday to allegations he and his wife bilked $400,000 from the San Francisco Unified School District and insurers. At the arraignment, Dickstein held hands with his wife, Barclay Lynn, who also entered a not guilty plea. Last month, the couple was arrested and charged by the San Francisco DA’s office with 31 felony counts, including grand theft, forgery, insurance fraud and conspiracy.
